home sweet home.

for those of you unfamiliar, i have not been an angeleno all my life. in fact, not even most of it. i'm a new yorker by both history and heart, but having spent 11 years in seattle has taught me to slow down some and catch more than a few breaths or two in between. having just recently moved to LA a few months ago, i took happily to decorating my space which, for the first time, offered me enough room to try some new things and play to a degree i had never had before whilst in seattle.

i reside in an old 1911 beaux arts building in downtown LA originally used as an office building but converted in 2002 for residential loft use. i couldn't wait to post pictures, despite the space being only about 90% complete. regardless, some shameless self promotion and eye candy for you to enjoy!

three beautiful home sneak peeks.

martha stewart has a great feature in their 'home & decorating' section this week of three homes with distinctly different styles and each family's take on life and style within each home. i strongly suggest visiting and taking a gander at each home - i'm especially envious of both the LA spanish-style home since i often pass by those houses on my way about town (do they all look like that on the inside?), and the beautifully done beach bungalow.

beautiful use of coordinating multiple shades of base colors, and LOVE the tree stump/stool idea.

the age of defiance - minimalism.

though a bit too cold and impersonal for me, there's still something sterilely fascinating about the concept of minimalism in one's home. in an age where clutter and numbers rule all, it's refreshing to see both constraint and style where lack of clutter is focus and so elegantly put on display.



on a similar note, i've been a fan of MUJI for some time now, not necessarily for what it represents (MUJI is actually short for mujirushi ryohin, or japanese for 'brandless quality goods'), but its simplistic form and focus on functionality over embellishment. i've yet to see a store in person, but am loving the displays.

the first of many + moroccan arrangements

first things first, hello & welcome!

this blog is something i've thought about doing on and off for over a year now, but only recently did the idea really come into fruition given the time i'm now able to allow and devote to this endeavor. i started this with the original intent of a design blog, but i'm realistic and realize this will probably evolve into both a design blog as well as a digital diary documenting my wacky misadventures as i'm still figuring out my new home as of two months ago - los angeles.

so, to kick things off, i'd again like to welcome everyone for stopping by and share my love for these moroccan-inspired floor cushion seating arrangements.





while the examples above are beautiful but not quite affordable, luckily both ikea and urban outfitters have similar versions that don't cost an arm and a leg, and both take well to the 'mix and match' spirit of these cushion arrangements.





and to emulate the structured couch arrangement in the second photo above, urban even sells platforms to raise the cushions off the ground.
